Kirkleagh

Experience the scenic beauty of Lake Somerset and the surrounding mountains, the pleasant greenery and rural aspect of the Kirkleagh and Sandy Creek valleys or the rugged beauty of the extensive forests and national park areas in the north of the Shire.

Travel
Just over an hour from downtown Brisbane. Take the Bruce Highway (Highway 1) to Caboolture then take the D’Aguilar Highway (Highway 17) and travel west towards Kingaroy to Kirkleagh.

What to do

  • camp at Neurum Creek Bush Retreat, Sandy Creek Campin’ on Cedar Vale Road or Kirkleagh's Lake Somerset Holiday Park.
  • visit local wineries and sample some of the excellent wines being made.
  • take a scenic drive to Jimna and visit the picturesque Peach Trees Camping Ground. A must do for 4WD enthusiasts is Landcruiser Mountain Park, 22km north of Jimna.
  • fish, sail, water ski and canoe on Lake Somerset at Kirkleagh.
  • visit the popular Yowie Park for a picnic overlooking Greensill Lake with its weeping willows and host of waterbirds.

  • peruse the artists’ wares at the Kilcoy Courthouse and arrange for purchases of interesting pieces
